Politics...
it's only boring if you let it!

A lot of people think that politics is really boring, and that you can't really make a difference.  Well I say you are wrong, on both counts!  If I thought I couldn't make a difference, then I would think it was boring too.  But you can easily make a difference if you know what you are doing.  Be aware of current issues, get as much information as you need on them, make your decision, and then, most importantly, LET PEOPLE HEAR IT!  Most people just let things go by, without even knowing that the government is trying to pass a bill on it.  This is why people think they can't do anything... because they DON'T do anything!

I might sound very optimistic and idealist in saying that we can change the world, but at least I'm trying to do something!  This world is pretty screwed up, and if we continue to let politicians make decisions (without any public input) on our laws, policies, and international relations, we're gonna be a lot worse.  Stand up and take some action!

As much as I have set politicians and the Government up as being the enemy, you should still go check out their homepages.  All the parties have something to offer, make sure you aware of it so you can milk them for all it's worth!

E-mail a politician
This is one of the most effective, economical and easy ways to tell politicians what you think, and it is entirely legal!

Parliament of Australia

Everything you need to know about the Parliament of Australia and how it is supposed to work!

Prime Minister of Australia
http://www.pm.gov.au/
Go see what Johnnie Howard has to say for himself.  Surprisingly helpful, although don't go forming your opinions from looking here, because it is (of course) entirely biased!

Opposition Executive
http://www.aph.gov.au/house/oppn/index.htm
See what Kimbo has to say about how shit the Primie Minister is, and occassionally giving a better solution to the problem, instead of just criticising it.  Good though, because if there is something the Government is trying to hide you can bet the opposition are doing their best for you to know about it!

Queensland Government

For those here in Queensland, you might find it helpful to know what is happening on a State Level, and what you can get out of it.

Foundation for Aboriginal and Islander Research Action (FAIRA)

Because there is always something going on, and always something the government is trying to fuck over the ATSI people about.

Everything you need to know about Human Rights and Equality in Australia, and how it is based on International standards set out by the UN

The Australian Politics Resource

Apparently the first Australian Politics Resource.. who cares if it is or not!  It has some good stuff.  And claims to present unbiased information..

A shit-load of links at Yahoo! for Government in Australia

So many links that I haven't even looked at half of them yet.  Plenty of things to check out.

Palmers Australian Politics

A great introduction to Australian politics, and plenty of stuff for expanding knowledge as well

That should be plenty to have you started.  Reading the newspapers helps a bit, but a lot of the time you only really get to hear about the issues that the government want you to know about.  There might be an Opposition Party, but sometimes they get together on things and sneak things through.  Stop looking at me like that.. I'm not some weird conspiracy theory guy, it's TRUE!  Best way is to actually get those 'weirdo communist/socialist newspapers' that people just sell on the street.  They are always exposing the government of something, I am sure there'll be something that pisses you off too...

Oh... and I don't expect you to become a big hero on the righteous path and slaying all evil political issues in your way.  I am the first to admit that really I don't know anywhere near enough about politics.. or just any issues.  I really have to start watching the news at least...

aaaaaanyway, that is about all of my little political rambling...
